How long does it take to sharpen a standard 18" chain?
3 - 4 minutes.


How long does it take to set up the machine?
Once the operator is comfortable with the machine, the setup can be done in less than one minute. Usually 30 seconds is all that is needed.


Does the machine sharpen both chain teeth and rakers?
Yes. During the same sharpening cycle, both cutters and rakers are sharpened. The Franzen SA6 also detects missing or damaged cutters and adjusts the sharpening cycle accordingly.


What is the longest chain you can sharpen with the machine?
Straight out of the box, the machine is capable of sharpening up to a 36" bar/chain (approximately 116 drive links). An additional attachment can be purchased to accommodate larger chains up to 8' (96", Approximately 323 drive links)


Will the machine do any pitch chain?
The machine will do any pitch chain including ¼", .325" 3/8", ¾" (with attachment) and .404." It can also do skip link chain.


What angles can the chain be sharpened?
From 10° to 50° angles.


Does the machine do both left and right cutters in the same cycle?
Yes, the sensor head is made up of three hardened steel pieces, so when the chain cutter is pushed, the head will read what side it's on.


What about the depth gauge?
The machine can be set to do the depth gauge in the same cycle, or you can skip the depth gauge cycle if desired.


Will the machine do carbide tipped chains?
The machine will have no problem with carbide chains; however you will have to install a Diamond wheel. (A diamond wheel is not included in the sale of the Franzen)


How many stones come with the machine?
10 cutter wheels are included: Three 3.2 and 4.5; and 4 of the 3.8 wheels. The machine also comes with two stones for the depth gauge.


How many sharpenings can you get out of each stone?
Depending on the cleanliness of the chain being sharpened, the cleaner the chain, the more sharpenings you will get.


Can you use Borazon wheels with the machine?
Yes, as long as the center hole of the wheel is machined to the proper size for the motor shaft.


What types of power requirements are needed for the machine?
The Franzen machine runs off 110V and 90-psi air pressure is needed.


How big is the machine and how much does it weigh?

What kind of maintenance is required?
The Franzen is maintenance free; there are no lubing points, or filters to change. We only recommend that you blow off the sensor head with air at the end of each day.


Who will train my staff on how to set-up and operate the machine?
Hands-on training by a Stens Franzen Specialist who will visit your facility to train your staff for locations in the 48 contiguous United States.


What kind of warranty does the machine have?
The Franzen Chain Sharpening Machine carries a 2 year warranty. Grinding wheels are excluded from warranty.
